Esther is one of Meta’s awesome industrial designers, known for her intellectual horsepower as much as her technical skill. Esther is rarely without a smile, and like several other Meta employees, comes from Down Under. True to the Australian stereotype, she loves to explore the outdoors, find new adventures, and generally keep her weekends booked. Esther’s quick wit and pleasant demeanor make her a pleasure to work with. That’s an amazing package, which is why she’s such an integral part of our team.

Can you give me a brief overview of what it is you do as an Industrial Designer?

As an industrial designer I am involved in the design, fit, and function of Meta products. My time is spent prototyping, 3D printing, sanding and painting parts for demo units and prototypes, fixing hardware, designing test plans, and supporting with our User Research and Engineering teams. But in Augmented Reality, industrial design goes beyond the typical concerns of ergonomics (fit and comfort), aesthetics, and shape. It looks deeper into how our next generation of users will interact with our physical products and digital content. My job is truly awesome.

What do you find most challenging and rewarding as an industrial designer at Meta?

Meta is redesigning the way people view digital content, allowing us to interact with digital information unlike ever before. We are designing a platform which is so far from the way people currently interact with modern workspaces, information, and the people around us that it’s truly challenging and exciting every day at Meta. The thing I love most about my job is I get to work closely with most every Meta employee, as we all have a key role in the development of our products. One of the cool aspects of being a startup!
